The CLRC's Engineering Department is based jointly at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the Daresbury Laboratory. The Department runs several world-class facilities, designs and builds the latest high technology hardware and undertakes research in order to support academic and industrial communities within the UK and abroad.

There are three operating Divisions

• Applied Science,
• Central Microstructure Facility
• Project Engineering.

The Head of the Engineering Department is Dr Mike Johnson.
